Last night was the 'Members critique night' .... and they came is large numbers.

It was a packed room with all the members criticising and contributing to other members paintings. Some of the members who (were bold enuough and) took centre-stage to present their paintings for criticism were Nada Annan, Lesia Tymochenko, Vishal Misra, Luba Repar, Christa Adler, Anu Vittal and Hooshang Zahiri. Thank you all for taking the efforts.

To bring structure to the critiques' John highlighted the key areas that everyone should address (in the least):
  • Composition
  • Colors
  • Contrast
  • Carefulness
  • and Creativity
So began the evening of comments and discussions. Visit the link for images from the evening ... http://www.flickr.com/photos/8558516@N03/

Series: "Know our Member Artists"

RON SYPHER
I started painting in oils in my teens and switched to acrylics in 1978. Until I retired from banking in 1994 painting was a part-time hobby. My retirement allowed me to concentrate on my art and I attended several artist workshops. My work has been in various shows including the juried shows at the Art Gallery of Mississauga, the Art Gallery of Peel and the Novotel Mississauga, and was featured artist at a local art gallery. I had the pleasure of teaching acrylic art at Springbank Arts Centre from 1996 to 2005, which helped me to gain even further insight into this medium. I am Past President of the Mississauga Art Society, and a member of the Mississauga Arts Council, Visual Arts Mississauga, Central Ontario Art Association and the Art Gallery of Mississauga.

I paint a wide range of subject matter, with emphasis on landscapes, cityscapes and seascapes. My paintings bring out the vivid, vibrant colours of acrylics, while capturing the serenity of the scenes. The acrylic medium is best suited for my style of painting, with its fast drying medium, versatility, and varied techniques, which enhance my paintings. I enjoy the versatility of acrylics as it allows full freedom in creating the realistic style of my paintings. The majority of my work is inspired from photos, and every painting is an original. I also do commissioned paintings for clients.

More information on my paintings can be found on my website http://www.ronsypher.com/. or email me at ron.sypher@sympatico.ca.

When Nada discovered oil painting, it was love at first stroke, because it allowed her the chance to translate inspiration into instant colour. Every oil painting she does is an exploration, combining focus with intuitive freedom. Her career began by copying from impressionist artists under the tutelage of known experts in the field.

As she got more and more involved in her art, she took some art classes, and then joined the Mississauga Art Society. She enjoys painting still life, landscapes and figures and is noted for her use of deep and rich colours.

Nada is passionate about her art. “I want people to see in my paintings the beauty of the structure that they may walk by every day and might never notice. As with my still life painting, I hope to evoke a smile or feeling of calm for my viewer”.

Her works have been included in numerous group and one-person shows and her art has been exhibited in a number of galleries.

To find out more about Nada, view her works, and learn about her upcoming shows and endeavors, you are invited to visit her website at http://www.nadaannan.com/ and you can email her at nadaannan@rogers.com.
